Jobs for June
Do the Chelsea chop - cut back some of the strongly growing foliage and stems of late flowering herbaceous perennials such as sedums or rudbeckia by a third to a half, this
will stimulate fresh side shoots that will produce extra flowers to bloom a little later in the season.
Plant out leeks seedlings - prepare the soil with compost and fertiliser, trim the roots, use a dibber to make a hole in the soil, drop the seedling in and fill the hole with
water, the roots will quickly make contact and grow on well.
Divide large clumps of primulas - fork round the whole clump so as not to damage the roots, divide into individual plantlets, deadhead, trim the roots and replant in other parts of the garden, water in well.
